The level of quality and how well riding gear functions is based upon what goes into that riding gear. Each KLIM product is built with the most technical components available ensuring the highest level of quality and the most functionality.

Gore Tex
GORE-TEX® fabrics are created by laminating GORE-TEX® membrane to high-performance textiles, then sealing them with an innovative solution for guaranteed waterproof protection.

MEMBRANE

The GORE-TEX® membrane is the heart of all KLIM® GORE-TEX® products. It contains over 9 billion microscopic pores per square inch. These pores are 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet, but 700 times larger than a water vapor molecule, which makes the GORE-TEX® membrane completely waterproof from the outside, while allowing perspiration to escape from the inside. An oleophobic, or oil-hating, substance is integrated into the membrane, preventing the penetration of body oils and insect repellent that could otherwise affect the membrane.

LAMINATES

To construct a GORE-TEX® laminate, GORE-TEX® membrane is bonded between high-performance fabrics that are extremely breathable. All GORE-TEX® fabrics are waterproof, windproof, and breathable. However, there are many different outer fabrics and fabric constructions available so that you can choose what's most important to you: weight, texture, abrasion resistance, and so on.

SEAM SEALING

Seams and stitching are essential aspects of a garment's construction. Unfortunately, they compromise the water and liquid protective properties of the fabric: seams and needle holes may be small, but they will still leak. That's why they must be completely sealed. For absolute waterproofness and liquid resistance, KLIM® products rely on GORE-SEAM® TAPE. This unique tape, backed by reliable Gore equipment and know-how, ensures that every seam and tiny stitch hole is sealed. Subject other technical fabrics to hard use or frequent washing and they may quickly lose effectiveness. Not GORE-TEX® fabrics. Each one is designed to be durably waterproof, windproof, and breathable and maintain its performance for the life of the end product.

WATERPROOF

The micro-porous structure of the GORE-TEX® membrane is what makes GORE-TEX® fabrics completely waterproof. Each microscopic pore is about 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water, which means no external moisture - from rain to snow to that puddle you just stepped in - can penetrate the membrane.

WINDPROOF

Shivering? It could be the wind chill effect. This occurs when cold air penetrates your clothing, robbing heat from your body's sensitive micro-climate. To keep you comfortable and protected in the windiest conditions, the GORE-TEX® membrane has been engineered to provide an impenetrable wind shield. Your product breathes, but wind stays out.

BREATHABLE

The pores in the GORE-TEX® membrane are 700 times bigger than a water vapor molecule, so perspiration can easily evaporate through and you can stay dry from the inside out. Breathability is an important component of comfort when you are active.

QUALITY TESTING

Gore’s quality management process is unique in this industry. From research through design and manufacturing, at every step they ensure that GORE-TEX® products are best in class – guaranteed. In their laboratories worldwide, they put products through a relentless battery of tests to ensure that every GORE-TEX® product meets their (and our) exacting standards for durability, waterproofness, breathability – and comfort. This rigorous quality management enables us to provide you with a lifetime guarantee for each of Klim’s GORE-TEX® products.

GUARANTEED TO KEEP YOU DRY®

If you are not completely satisfied with the waterproofness, windproofness, or breathability of a GORE-TEX® product then Klim will repair it, replace it, or refund your purchase price. All GORE-TEX® garments and footwear - and only GORE-TEX® garments and footwear - carry the GUARANTEED TO KEEP YOU DRY® promise. What does this mean? It means that no liquid from the outside will get to you on the inside. This includes moisture from the wet snow you’re kneeling in to the sudden downpour you get caught in. And that's a promise.

CARE

GORE-TEX® products are not only built to last, they're easy to take care of, too. Routine care and maintenance on your part will ensure the highest performance from them and extend their useful lifespan. WASH - Machine-wash warm (104° F/40° C). Powder or liquid detergent. No fabric softener. Follow manufacturer's instructions. DRY CLEAN - If professionally dry-cleaned, request clear distilled solvent rinse and spray repellent. Follow manufacturer's instructions. IRON - Steam-iron warm, placing a towel or cloth between the garment and the iron. No need to iron the garment until it is completely dry. BLEACH - No chlorine bleach. It may damage your garment. DRY - Tumble-dry warm. The heat from the dryer will help to reactivate the durable water repellent (DWR) treatment on your garment's outer fabric. WATER REPELLENT TREATMENT - Gore recommends applying a topical water repellency restorative (DWR treatment) for outdoor fabrics, available at your local outdoor retailer. We do not recommend wash-in treatments as they can affect the garment's breathability. STAIN REMOVAL - Use a pre-wash treatment such as Shout® or Spray 'n Wash®, following its manufacturer's instructions. Rinse well.

THINSULATE™
WHY THINSULATE™ Insulation?

Thinsulate™ fibers are much thinner than the polyester fibers normally used in clothing insulation, allowing them to create a dense, tangled mat that reflects radiant heat and traps air while allowing moisture to escape. For a given thickness of material, Thinsulate™ Insulation provides up to 1.5 times the insulation of duck down, while being much less water-absorbent and much more resistant to crushing.

STAYING WARM

Thinsulate™ Insulation works in two ways: first, by trapping air.  Second, by reflecting back the body’s radiant heat.  The micro fibers of Thinsulate™ Insulation are up to one fifth the diameter of fibers in other synthetic insulations.  Because more fibers can be packed into the same space they can trap more air and reflect back more of the body’s radiant heat.  The result is warmth without bulk.

MOISTURE PERFORMANCE

Individual fibers in Thinsulate™ Insulation absorb less than 1% of their weight in water, helping to retain insulating ability even under damp conditions.

BREATHABILITY

Excellent insulating efficiency does not diminish breathability. Thinsulate™ Insulation allows moisture the body creates to exit.  With excellent moisture vapor transmission - Thinsulate™ insulation is highly breathable and dries quickly to keep wearers comfortable. Combined with GORE-TEX® membrane, the resulting product is completely waterproof, breathable and retains body heat for maximum comfort in colder weather.

COMFORT & QUALITY

Quality insulation must provide uniform warmth.  That’s why there are construction guidelines for manufacturers incorporating Thinsulate™ Insulation into their footwear, accessories and apparel.

MAJOR PLAYERS

Thinsulate™ Insulation is used by leading manufacturers for many reasons.  One of the key advantages is that 3M works closely with manufacturers to help ensure that the most suitable type and weight of Thinsulate™ Insulation is used.  This “best use” philosophy puts value and reliability behind the Thinsulate™ Insulation hang tag.  Your customers can count on these products for durability and warmth.

THINSULATE™ INSULATION AND GORE-TEX® FABRIC

These are two entirely different products.  Thinsulate™ Insulation is designed to help keep you warm.  GORE-TEX® Fabric is waterproof and breathable and is designed to help keep you dry.  In many garments, they are used together.

DIFFERENT WEIGHTS OF THINSULATE™ INSULATION

Different applications will require different warmth levels; the insulation must increase in thickness and weight.  For example, a fall jacket may use a 40-gram weight, but an Arctic parka would probably have a 200-gram weight.

Tricot
Used in the liners of parkas, bibs and pants tricot helps in the transportation of moisture away from the body helping the rider to stay dry. It is also used in different thickness to create an element of warmth.
Taffeta
Also used in the liners of parkas, bibs and pants taffeta is a slick material that aids in comfort and ease of movement.
Kevlar
Used in areas where abrasion and heat are a concern Kevlar helps to combat these two elements.
Arctic Fleece
Has dual sided finishes, a berber finish on the inside creates a superior warmth barrier while the outside velour finish creates a clean look. Arctic Fleece offers superior warmth to weight ratio, excellent water vapor transmission, and is also breathable.
Thermal Guard Fabric
Offers a superior warmth to weight ratio, excellent water vapor transmission and breatheability. The velour side is engineered to create thousands of air pockets that trap air, thus creating an excellent insulation zone. The polyester velour backing will keep the wearer warm and the outer nylon face provides excellent abrasion resistance.
Coolmax
Coolmax is a performance enhancing fabric that has channeled fibers that optimize the movement of moisture produced by the body away leaving the rider dry and comfortable
Clarino
Extraordinary high tech leather, Clarino (TM) breathes naturally, feels soft, is extremely durable and offers superior grip.

Qwik Dry
More effective at transporting moisture than traditional wicking fabrics, Qwik Dry fabric improves performance and comfort by transporting unwanted moisture away from the rider's body.
Nylon
Used as the face fabric of our outerwear, nylons used in different thickness depending on where and why they will be used. The trick is to use a nylon that is thick enough to withstand abuse, but thin enough to give the desired mobility.

All nylons used can be categorized in 4 different groups:
Ballistic Nylon

Generally found in between 500 and 1000 denier ballistic nylon is the ultimate when it comes to with standing extreme abuse.
High Tenacity Nylon

This nylon is a 330 denier nylon which has great abrasion resistance along with maximum flexibility and can be found in high wear areas.
Standard Nylon

Built as a 200 denier nylon it gives ample protection against abuse and is extreme flexible.
Lite Nylon

Rip stop is our choice when a lighter nylon is required. Rip stop nylon give maximum mobility yet is extremely durable and resists ripping.
