What comes with my ABS Pack?

What costs are involved when purchasing an ABS Pack?
You will be charged for a pack with all of its components and a refundable cylinder deposit of $60.00.
This $60.00 will be refunded when the new owner performs the practice release.
After the practice release, the cylinder with cap, activation handle, Styrofoam container and warranty card must be turned in to the dealership where purchased or to Klim if purchased from Klim directly, to receive the full $60.00 refund.

Can I fly with my ABS Pack?
In the United States you can fly with the pack and the activation handle but not the cylinder.
In other countries other than the United States or over U.S. soil, you can fly with the pack, cylinder and activation handle, as checked baggage, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) under Provisions for Dangerous Goods Carried by Passengers or Crew, subsection 2.3, Table 2.3.A.
There are a couple of special requirements, for more information look on page 33 your ABS User’s Manual.
Pack must be disarmed
Notify airlines 14 days in advance

As a dealer, can I ship an ABS Pack to a customer?
A pack and activation handle can be shipped by anyone.
You must be certified to ship hazardous materials to ship cylinders.


How do I perform a practice release?
It is recommended that at the beginning of each year a practice test is performed. This will insure that the pack is functioning properly.
To perform the practice test, refer to the User’s Manual and follow the 12 step instructions found of pages 22-28.

How much should the cylinder weigh?
Total cylinder weight is printed on a white label at the base of the cylinder in grams.
Without the cylinder cap, the weight of the cylinder should equal the total grams printed on the white label, +/- 5 grams.

What is the difference between black, silver and yellow cylinders?
Black cylinders are approved for use in any ABS Pack, but not DOT approved to ship in the United States.
Silver cylinders are approved for use in any ABS Pack and are DOT and TC approved to ship anywhere.
Yellow cylinders are approved for use in any ABS Pack and are DOT and TC approved to ship and are refillable.

Where do I send my warranty card?
The warranty card is located in the User’s Manual
The card must be filled out completely after performing the practice test
The completed warranty card, cylinder with gasket and cap, handle and Styrofoam container must be turned in at the place of purchase to receive the cylinder deposit refund.

How does the practice test differ from last year?
The system check procedure is the same.
The warranty card replaces the paperwork from last year.

How do I get my deposit back?
Perform the practice test.
Completely fill out the warranty card located in the User’s Manual.
Place cylinder with gasket and cap on and activation handle back into Styrofoam container.
Call place of purchase for a return authorization number.
Return Styrofoam container and warranty card to place of purchase with return authorization number written on the outside of the box.

What do I do if I pull the activation handle without a full cylinder threaded into the Pack?
Please note page 25 of the User’s Manual states that pulling the activation handle without a cylinder screwed in will result in damage to the pin rendering the pack useless until the pin line is replaced.
Call Klim for a Repair Authorization number to immediately send your pack in to be serviced.
Cost for repair is as follows.
$150.00 for line replacement and practice test.
$30.00 service fee.
$10.00 activation handle replacement.
Return freight.

How far do I screw the cylinder in?
The cylinder needs to be screwing in all of the way until it is firmly pressed against the back stop.
Refer to instructions on page 23 of the User’s Manual.

What do I do with a spent cylinder?
If the cylinder is from a practice test, refer to directions above on “How do I get my deposit back?”
If you have an empty cylinder aside from the practice test, call Klim for a return authorization number and return the activation handle and cylinder with gasket and cap in Styrofoam container for a discount on your next cylinder/handle kit. This applies to the yellow canister only.
Normal price for a new canister/handle release unit is $150. When you return a spent canister/handle release unit you will have the option of buying a new unit for $60.

What does it cost to ship a newly purchased pack with cylinder kits?
Air shipment requires a dangerous goods flat fee of $50.00 in addition to regular freight.
Ground shipment requires a hazardous materials flat fee of $30.00 in addition to regular freight.
Regular freight depends on recipient location.
The flat rate fees are a per box fee. Up to 28 cylinders can be shipped in one box.

Where are ABS Packs manufactured?
Packs are manufactured in China.
Entire air-bag system is manufactured in Germany.
All assembly is done in Germany according to ABS specifications.

Who are the distributors for the ABS Packs?
Klim is the North American distributor.
Rocky Mountain Xtreme is the Canadian dealership for Klim.

Which ABS products does Klim carry?

What is ABS’s Warranty?
The warranty covers manufacturer defects of the ABS-System and pack for 4 years only after a completed warranty card is submitted and practice activation has been performed.
This warranty does not cover damage caused by accident, improper care, negligence, normal wear and tear, modifications, alterations, or use for a purpose other than which it was designed.
