2014 Iron Dog Race Recap
Fairbanks, AK – It came down to the last day of the race to reveal the winner of the 2014 Iron Dog Race as Team 16 featuring Todd Minnick and Nick Olstad crossed the finish line first. Team 17 with Marc Mckenna and Dusty Vanmeter came in second place and Team 10 with Chris Olds and Mike Morgan rounded out the podium.
To finish the race let alone podium is a great accomplishment as the Iron Dog race crosses over 2,000 miles of Alaskan wilderness, subzero temperatures and conditions that make even the most race ready sled brittle and prone to failure. Out of the 38 teams that entered the race 14 of them did not finish.
KLIM riders Mike Morgan and Chris Olds were in the lead the majority of the race and had mechanical failure during the last stage that took them out of the top spot. They were running what the thought was a perfect race up until their sled troubles, unfortunately that’s the way things tend to go during the Iron Dog.
KLIM wants to congratulate all the riders that raced this year’s Iron Dog and made it the great event that it is. It’s not a glamorous sport and sometimes it’s downright dangerous, but these guys love it and wouldn’t want it any other way.
