Dakar Contenders Say Mexican Event Is Key To Training
September 1, San Rafael, CA
America's premier motorcycle rally team, Rally Pan Am, is gearing up for the most grueling race on earth--the Dakar Rally. The Dakar Rally crosses South America covering 5000 miles in 14 days. The team has spent more than two years preparing and will hone it's skills at the 3rd running of the Baja Rally in Baja California, Mexico.
Team rider, Scott Bright, is the defending Baja Rally champion, having won the 2014 event, besting the efforts of Baja champions Steve Hengeveld and Andy Grider. Bright recently competed against Europe's best at the Sardinia Rally.
"The Baja Rally is a key race on our schedule" says Team Manager, Dave Peckham. "The Baja Rally is a great event, it's right in our back yard, and our last chance to race before shipping our Dakar bikes and truck to Europe."
Joining Bright is teammate Ian Blythe, who will fly from Brazil for this critical practice opportunity. Blythe is currently leading the Brazil Championship series. In his last rally, the Australasian Safari, Blythe placed 3rd behind two seasoned Dakar veterans.
"The team and I are proud to support Rally Pan Am’s Dakar bid and It's great to see world-class racers like Ian and Scott choosing the Baja Rally as training for the worlds biggest event" says rally founder, Scotty Breauxman. "The Baja Rally is a cultural and scenic human adventure to test the mind, body and spirit. This year will be no exception."
Rally Pan Am is sponsored by ICO Racing, Motion Pro, Baja Designs, Craftsman, Klim, MX1WEST, F2R, Gatos Bros, Konflict Motorsports, and DT1 Filters. The team is actively seeking additional sponsors.
