Great fit and venting but disappointed in CE 1 armor

    Patrick C

I just bought the Baja S4 jacket and pants before going on a 1100 adventure ride with friends. The fit and comfort are great. The venting is excellent. I was disappointed in the CE level 1 armor. I was able to put my CE2 armor from another Klim product in the knees, but all of the hip, shoulder and elbow pockets were too small for the CE2 armor. Klim shouldn’t make any adventure clothes that can’t accommodate CE2 armor.

    So far, so good.

I received the jacket and pants yesterday and put about 100 miles on them so far; they are comfortable and vent well. Like others, I prefer CE2 armor to the CE1 which comes with the Baja gear, but I had no problem inserting the CE2 pieces into my jacket or pants.

Disappointed that it doesn't have level 2 armor.. but.. it's a fabulous design.

Baja S4 jacket is awesome.. but.. I'm the third customer in a row making the complaint that it doesn't come with CE2 level protection (only comes with level1).. I'm wondering if Klim does marketing research, or perhaps listens to customers. I want the ventilation, but I also want the protection. Yes you can spend a lot more and buy the Level 2.. but why not have an exchange program as an up-grade if Klim believes the majority of purchasers want level 1.. I suspect most customers want level 2.. please consider putting level 2 in the jacket Klim.

Great fit/flow... armor sucks and replacement means tailoring the pockets

    GH

Jacket fits great and seems to provide plenty of airflow to make up for wearing airbag. However, CE1 armor... really? I guess if you're riding a scooter in urban traffic...otherwise, no. While your elbow pocket allows for better armor, your shoulder pocket is ridiculously small and tailored to *only* fit D30...which really isn't great armor. At this price point armor should have been at least CE2, even if it is that D30 junk...

Size chart works great. I have ridden in Klim gear since 2002 and I have about 700 off-road miles in this jacket and it works flawlessly! Ventilation works great in the Moab desert. The flex panels work extremely well for unhindered movement off-road and all the zippers are easy to use one handed. The interior liner is comfortable and I experienced no chafing even while wearing a light t-shirt. The zipper at neck chafes a little when unzipped to just below the collar. Due to heavy venting mesh, when cuffs are closed tightly they do not close comfortably around the wrist (the mesh bunches), it should have been a light flex panel there. I miss the external chest pocket of my Badlands jacket for a Garmin Mini. For my own peace of mind I wish everything was double stitched and that is had the heavier D30 armor, all that being said I would definitely recommend buying this jacket.

    Where’s the Beef?

    Chuck G

Good fit. Ease of movement. Good ventilation. This jacket was designed for adventure riding but no kidney belt, no “inreach” pocket, and inadequate armor. C’mon, 580$, Where’s the beef? I like the jacket and will transfer armor and kidney belt from my Badlands jacket to the Baja. Still no good place for the inreach.

Good All-Season Jacket for the Southwest

    Tad Wesson

Bought the Baja S4 jacket, gloves, and Enduro rain suit for an 1800-mile summer loop around California. Ventilation was average and mostly comfortable in the 70 to 85 degree range. Was on a Multistrada with a small fairing so not all of the ventilation issues can be attributed to jacket design. That said, temperatures ranged from 45 to 105 and was able to adjust with layering as needed for low temps, cooling vest for the highs. No rain to test the Enduro but it worked great as a windbreaker for the cold sections. Replaced armor with Klim CE2 and it fit fine. Comments for the next gen, Baja sleeves do not have a zipper at the cuff so it’s hard to stuff the gloves into the sleeves. I’ve installed a 6” zipper in the sleeves to fix. 2nd issue is that the size LG Enduro fit well over the LG Baja except at the sleeves where the Baja bunches up and you need to go fishing to pull them through. Will be installing a zipper in the Enduro once the fabric sealer comes in.
