The 2023-2024 AMSOIL Championship Snocross series returned to Canterbury Park’s premier horse racetrack in Shakopee, Minnesota, on January 12 & 13 for Rounds 3 and 4.

The two-day signature event, known as the “Daytona of Snocross” -- one of the circuit’s most historic and popular venues -- has been hosting snowmobile racing since 1996.

KLIM’s Pro title contenders Emil Harr and Kody Kamm lined up for Team Judnick Motorsports Polaris out of 15 pros, and the three-race Triple Crown format proved to favor Harr once again – the winningest rider in the Triple Crown format with five out of eight all-time overall wins.

Harr warmed up on Friday going 7-9-15 for 11th overall. On Saturday, Harr’s combined 5-2-3 score awarded him the overall win.

“Track was really good,” Harr said Monday. “I was able to do a lot of passes. Best part of the weekend was to be on the podium with the team, and it felt great.

“The Race Gear is good as always,” Harr added.

For teammate Kamm, Friday started off with the top qualifying spot and points lead going into the final round.

“Friday was on its way to being a very good day,” Kamm said Monday. “Despite the cold, I felt great on track and the team had my sled fast on the starts.”

In the third and final race, Kamm encountered a round of misfortune and finished 14th for sixth overall with a 3-1-14.

In Pro Lite on Friday for Scheuring Speed Sports, Anson Scheele finished seventh, passing from 14th into 7th by the fourth lap of the 20-lap race, and said he always likes racing at Canterbury -- just wishes the track was bigger.

“I can’t complain we were still able to race,” Scheele said, adding that starts are everything in Snocross and getting the holeshot is the key to having a good night of racing.

On Saturday, Scheele finished just outside the top three with a fourth out of 15 after a second in Round 1 Heat 1 and a third in Round 2 Heat 3.

“The snow dust made it difficult to see,” Scheele added, “But I’d rather have that than rain or warm snow. The Race Spec gear has been a huge plus keeping me warm and safe out there.”

Representing KC Motorsports Polaris, Evan Christian said the weekend in Minnesota was overall pretty good with the Polaris race sleds on point from the start and “ripped out of there like crazy."

In Round 1 Heat 3, Christian finished second out of nine after a second-place start, followed that up with a first in Round 2 Heat 1 and in the Final, after a fifth-place start, passed into the lead after the third lap and dropped to second by lap 11 of the 20-lap race.

“Having Friday breaking out to a second place was a good confidence booster and a good start to the weekend. The best part about Friday was running up front all day. The sled and I were able to have some good runs and were feeling great and having that flow.”

In Saturday’s Final, after a third in the first heat and a third in the second, Christian started sixth and said it was “super tough to see.”

By the ninth lap, a minor mistake in the whoops section sent him to the ground, his sled swapping left to right and knocking him out of contention.

“It’s part of racing,” he said, adding that the Race Spec gear “was amazing in the -26 degree windchill.”

“I never had an issue with being cold,” Christian added. “The Aggressor Shirt 1.0 base layer kept me warm from the very first practice all the way through the final. I never had any issues with fogging my goggles or feeling any wind. The Race Spec stuff is the best on the market.”

KC Motorsports Polaris, Sweden’s Oskar Norum said he had some ups and downs over the weekend, with a third overall in Friday’s Triple Crown with a 6-2-7.

“Track was OK, not so much snow,” Norum said Monday. “There was a lot of battling on a fast track.

For Norum, Friday was more fun than Saturday and the track a little more challenging. He went 13-10-7 for 12th overall.

“It was very nice to be back riding in front on Friday,” Norum added. “It got colder on Saturday and the vision got worse with all the snow dust. The KLIM Race Spec gear is awesome – even with this colder weather, it kept me warm throughout the whole race.”

On the Krajicek Racing team, Eleanor Schmidt earned her first national podium in the Jr. Girls 9-13 class, after a second in Round 1 Heat 2 and a third in Round 2 Heat 2. Out of 11 in the Final, Schmidt worked her way up from a fifth-place start to pass into third by the second lap – her fastest lap of the 5-lap race.

“Canterbury has been a struggle every year for me, and I told myself I was going to podium this year,” Schmidt said Monday. “The snow was so sugary and the corners were hard to make. I managed to push hard on the opening lap to get me into podium position and from there I just rode safe to secure a spot.”

Known as “The Highlighter” on the track, Schmidt said the KLIM Race Spec gear is “nothing short of amazing.”

“It’s the thinnest warmest gear I’ve ever worn,” she added. “I love it so much. Thank you guys for everything this year. I will do my best to keep KLIM on the podium.”
