Monday Morning Debrief
Every weekend KLIM athletes and ambassadors across the globe tackle some of the gnarliest and sometimes unpredictable terrain to pursue their passion and push their abilities to see what they’re really capable of.
Here’s a quick recap of where KLIM athletes put their gear to the test this weekend.
The International Watercross Association wrapped up its 2022 season at Brainerd International Raceway facility in Minnesota with David Fischer winning the Pro Open title and his second World Championship.
The Minnesota-based rider also captured the Pro Stock and Lemans class championship, including winning all seven Pro Stock rounds.
“My biggest challenge was building two new sleds this year because the rules changed allowing for 900,” Fischer said, adding there were so many hours in R&D and intense competition.
The Team Polaris athlete stayed focused and out of his head through his “great support team at the races, sponsors who believed in me and encouragement from family and friends.”“There are a lot of good racers so I needed to keep cool and stay calm,” Fischer added. “Racing smart, laser-focused with the mindset I’m going to win.”
At Round 3 of the 2022 GEICO AMA EnduroCross Championship Series in Denver, Colo., Will Riordan (FMF RPM KTM Racing), made into the top 10 in the EX Pro class with a ninth place overall going 9-10-10.
“I feel pretty happy after last weekend,” the Australian said. “I made some improvements and enjoyed myself a lot. I had some unfortunate crashes but that’s a part of EnduroCross racing and definitely some crashes that are my fault I need to clean up. All good though and excited for more!”
Max Gerston (GasGas) finished 11th overall with a 13-11-9. “I struggled to find my flow on the tricky track throughout the day and seemed to put myself in the wrong spots at the wrong times,” Gerston wrote on Instagram.
“I definitely felt a little run down after a crazy week and didn’t have my quick twitch firing. On a positive note, I am healthy after a few on-track collisions and I learned a few things to take to the next race. Racing dirt bikes is fun and the lessons learned can be directly translated to all aspects of life. Very grateful to be here and ready to charge ahead. We’re solid.”
The EnduroCross series is on pause until Oct. 22 when it returns to Prescott Valley, Ariz. for Round 4. (Catch all of the action live on rydetv.com.)
“Definitely looking forward to regrouping with a little time off and coming out swinging for the final three rounds,” Gerston said Monday.
“I’m keen to practice and improve and just enjoy myself,” Riordan added.
In the EX Intermediate class, Coleman Johnson put his XC Lite gear out front again in both the qualifier and the main event, finishing over six seconds ahead of second place in the sub-6 minute main.
“I really liked the Denver track because it had a lot of obstacles and it also had a lot of passing lanes,” Johnson said. “I was able to manage a six second lead because I got through the matrix section every lap and that was giving everyone problems through the day.”
The Idaho-based rider has a 16-point lead after the halfway point in the series.
“I am really looking forward to a few weeks off so I can practice on getting my speed up and making less mistakes on long motos so I will be even more ready for Prescott,” Johnson added.
At the AMA National Grand Prix Championship in Ridgecrest, Calif., Mateo Oliveira (FMF RPM KTM Racing) finished first in the Pro II class and extended his points lead with two rounds to go.
“It was another hot weekend with a high-paced track and a lot of small chop,” Oliveira said of the nine-lap race. “The first lap or two was close, pushing hard, trying to break away from the pack – kinda how a lot of my races have gone this year.”
