Apparel Designer

Apparel Designer

 

The  Designer will design products such as bags, footwear, lifestyle, base layers, mid layers, and technical outerwear. You will work closely with the Design Director to determine style, material, and color stories based on input from the customer, merchandising, sales, and marketing. Keeps abreast of fashion trends and consumer needs, and supports the integrity of the lines/brands and the goals of the company.  Produces design sketches and tech packs.  Reviews all styles for construction, silhouette, fit and trim details. 

 

 

  • - Responsible for designing a given number of products per season as well as managing carry- overs for assigned collections.
  • - Attend trade shows, research global markets review industry publications to stay current with market trends and identify new fabrics and techniques.
  • - Work with Design Director to develop seasonal color stories and inspiration boards.
  • - Research and understand the consumer of assigned collections.
  • - Administers a pro-active role through entire product design process: research, design concept presentation, illustrations, fit and fabric/trim/print direction, development of specification pack, critique of sales samples.
  • - Follow and design to the product brief. Work with the Tech Team to insure designs will hit the specific target FOB.
  • - Creates on-strategy designs within set timelines for multiple seasons. 
  • - Capacity to imagine, capture and express a brand’s ethos through unique product concepts, design and styling.
  • - Create tech packs with detailed specifications for production.
  • - Ensures that the product is consistent with market trends as well as business strategy.
  • - Assists with fit sessions in office and in factory and work with Tech Designer to deliver the garment fit as briefed by the Product Line Manager.
  • - Drive value-engineering through design process:  consolidation of fabrics, zippers, trims, etc.
  • - Works closely with Materials Manager to select innovative and commercial fabrications to achieve desired functional results.
  • - Collaborates with Design Director and other team members to achieve 'state of the art' opportunities for product innovation.
  • - Supply accurate/complete Design Packs to the Technical Design team on schedule.
  • - Partners with the Technical Design team to ensure tech packs are kept up to date, accurate and complete.
  • - Work with the Technical Design team to review strike offs and samples and make recommendations for corrections.
  • - Travel as necessary to facilitate the development and sampling process.
  • - Successfully performs these and other duties as assigned.
  • - Performs duties consistent with the company’s AAP/EEO goals and policies.

 

Education/Experience

 

  • - BA in Apparel Design or related field of study preferred.
  • - 3-5 years of professional experience in apparel. Bags or footwear preferred.
  • - Understanding of the history and direction of market trends.
  • - Strong eye for color.
  • - Advanced knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
  • - Strong illustration skills- possess the ability of communicating a concept thru sketching free hand as well as on the computer.
  • - A knowledge of printing techniques and understanding of how graphics will translate onto a printable garment is a plus.
  • - Ability to work with multiple personalities in a diverse, fast paced environment to create a team atmosphere.
  • - Must have exceptional ability to manage time professionally and execute ideas from initial concept to completion.
  • - Ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines.

Hard Parts Designer

The Hardparts Designer will work on a variety of different product categories: helmets, goggles, boots and bags.

 

Use your perspective to create products that merchandize back with the apparel line and capture the KLIM DNA. Understand the competitive landscape, leverage hands on experience and customer feedback to uncover areas to improve functionality and create game changing products. Collaborate with the POD (Product Developer and Product Line Manager) throughout the process to insure the functional, design, price point, and quality expectations are met. Develop strong working relationships with sourcing, sales, and marketing partners. 

 

  • - Responsible for the cohesiveness of assigned product categories and ensure the product is consistent with market trends and business strategy.
  • - Design a given number of products per season as well as managing carry- overs for assigned collections.
  • - Attend trade shows, research global markets, and review industry publications to stay current with market trends and new construction techniques.
  • - Administers a pro-active role through the entire design/development process: research, design concept presentation, ideation, fabric/trim/print direction, tech pack generation, and sample review.
  • - Maintain an in depth understanding of customer.
  • - Gather customer insight on existing products and future designs and concepts.
  • - Meet all timelines.

  • - Work with the product development team to review samples, strike offs and counter samples and make recommendations for corrections.
  • - Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager.
  • - Travel as necessary to facilitate the development and sampling process.

Education/Experience

 

  • - 3-5 years of professional experience designing hard parts and/or accessories.
  • - Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design.
  • - Possess the ability of communicating a concept thru free hand sketching as well as on the computer.
  • - Proficiency in Solidworks (3D CAD).
  • - Hand sculpting is a plus.
  • - Highly developed conceptual, creative and analytical skills.
  • - Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • - High level knowledge of competitive product, retail environments and market influences.
  • - Self-motivated and flexible.
  • - Eager to learn.
  • - Ability to work independently toward project goals and timelines with little direction.

Fabric Specialist – Lifestyle

Essential Function

 

The Lifestyle Fabric Specialist has a key role in the creation of a completely new Lifestyle line of KLIM products. This position is responsible for the development of all new fabrics and materials needed for this new line. The Lifestyle Fabric Specialist will work closely with the Design team, Development team, and existing Material team to create the process, procedures and documentation needed to stay on time with fabric development. 5+ year’s experience in a Lifestyle brand, preferably a brand with heavy direct to consumer presence.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

The Lifestyle Fabric Specialist will be responsible for maintaining an organizing the Lifestyle physical material library along with the digital library in our PLM software system (Centric). Will be responsible for finding all Lifestyle fabrics and materials requested by the Lifestyle Design and Development POD. Will execute the Brief by searching, evaluating, and testing multiple fabric and material options that meet the criteria listed in the Brief. Will need to develop deep relationships with all fabric and material vendors which will allow us to stay on the leading edge of new developments. 

 

The Lifestyle Fabric Specialist will need to communicate and continue training and knowledge sharing with the Design and Development team on all fabrics and materials found. Will help with the strategic direction of long-term Lifestyle fabric development planning and implementation. Will ensures that fabrics and materials are produced at the correct time, cost, and quality. Will be responsible for all Lifestyle test standards, procedures, and test results.  Will be responsible for color and print approval on all Lifestyle fabrics created for bulk production. Will aid the Design and Development team with sourcing trim suppliers. Will aid the production team with all Lifestyle fabric pre-build and forecasting.

 

Qualifications

 

  • - Interpret and/or discuss information with others, which involves terminology, products and concepts.

  • - Provides occasional guidance, some of which is technical.

 

Education & Experience

 

  • - Bachelors Degree in Textile Development or equivalent experience in related area.

Junior Product Line Manager

Essential Function

 

The Junior Product Line Manager is responsible for supporting an assigned category's planning and product creation process from concept through commercialization. They're charged with ownership of assigned marketplace, execution of business plans, sales and margin accountability, calendar adherence, and cross functional leadership. The Junior Product Line Manager owns relevant information on consumer and competitors, identifying trends, business strategy plans and analysis for all supporting categories.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • - Responsible for assisting overall strategic direction of the line; which businesses to grow, decline and maintain in accordance with business priorities of each operating channel
  • - Assist the execution of business plans and calendar and budget adherence
  • - Support PR presentations internally and externally; support product marketing campaigns
  • - In collaboration with Design & Development, work to develop and execute profitable product offerings while taking into consideration current trends. 
  • - Research relevant competitors for division; maintain awareness of trends and competition and apply to KLIM
  • - Support the Product Line Managers in the creation of short and long-term strategies, tactical product executions and innovations. Help develop seasonal business and line plans that contribute to the overall business plan. Establish productwholesale and global retail pricing structure that meets revenue and profitability targets. 
  • - Ensure that key milestones are achieved and products meet the needs of customer base worldwide from strategy to launch. Ensure seamless interaction to deliver a product line that is designed, developed and manufactured to meet productrequirements, market needs, margin goals, and calendar timeline
  • - Support in creation of product briefs that inspire design and development in the product Incorporate marketplace influences and consumer insights. Provide briefs that give clear product direction and information to the development and design partners.
  • - Partner with Design, Development and Sourcing to ensure deadlines are met and that product's hit all key metrics (initial gross margin, retail pricing, minimums, and turns). Develop a collaborative working environment among product creation teams. Resolve process issues and recommend ways to continually improve the interaction of team members as well as process efficiencies.
  • - Analyze product sell through, turns and margin to maximize sales and margins. Analyze and report style/category/channel business performance on a regular basis.
  • - Collaborate with marketing teams to ensure all product launch goals are defined and met.
  • - Maintain and provided necessary data for line plans in business systems across the organization
  • - Stay current on competitive research for both Off Road and Action Sports Clothing brands.

 

Education/Experience

 

  • - Understanding key retail sales metrics and key merchandising requirements
  • - Effectively present information both internally and externally in a professional and brand appropriate manner
  • - Skilled at Word, Excel and a strong knowledge of spreadsheet functions
  • - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
