SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING

This helmet was manufactured from the latest state-of-the-art high-strength materials. However, no helmet can protect you from every kind of injury or impact. If you disregard one or more parts of this manual, the protection of your KLIM X1 Alpha helmet may be reduced partly or completely.

In case of a fall or impact to the helmet, the protection capacity of the helmet can no longer be guaranteed. The helmet is built to absorb the energy which is inflicted upon it in the case of a fall. These forces are absorbed by partly or completely destroying the outer and/or the inner shell of the helmet. This damage – especially to the inner shell of the helmet – is often not visible to the user. Therefore, the helmet should be replaced in the case of a fall or impact.

Don’t put your helmet too close to the exhaust pipe or engine components. The high temperatures may damage the helmet and thus affect the protection capacity of your helmet.

Labels and safety stickers must not be removed – except the size stickers.

This helmet is made of high-strength and extremely durable materials. Due to environmental conditions, the plastics, glues, and inner liner materials are subject to wear and general breakdown over long periods of time. As a result, we recommend replacement of the helmet with a new one after 5 years, regardless of use. This will ensure maximum performance, safety, and reliability.

ATTENTION

When not in use, the helmet should be kept in the provided bag in order to protect the helmet. Store the helmet away from excessive sources of heat, cold or moisture.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

OUTER SHELL

The outer shell is made of hand-laid pre-impregnated 3K carbon fiber:

  • Pre-impregnated fibers: the fibers are embedded homogeneously in the thermosetting resin before the manufacturing process.
  • The fibers are bonded in the resin, which provides both rigidity and resilience for an optimal balance of their properties, while maintaining a very light weight.
  • This allows for variation of the density of layers according to the dynamic properties and features that are required on specific areas of the helmet.
  • This manufacturing process virtually eliminates bubbles, imperfections and excess resin buildup in the shel.

IMPACT ABSORBING LINING

The inner shell is made of triple-density EPS (Expanded PolyStyrene) sandwiched around a layer of Koroyd impact absorbing material.

Koroyd is a green, dual-walled material made up of straw-like structures, or cores, welded together. The cores crush homogeneously when impacted, without the rebound condition found when using EPS alone. Using a combination of these materials, we are able to optimize energy absorption for both large and small impact forces, while also creating a superior ventilation system for heat management.

VENTILATION & HEAT MITIGATION

The new KLIM X1 Alpha combats heat buildup at every design level.

Shell + Koroyd + EPS construction: KLIM engineered the Koroyd high-efficiency impact absorption material, which provides massive airflow through straw-like structures, in between an inner and outer layer of EPS. The outer layer of EPS acts as an insulator between the helmet shell (which gets hot in the sun) and the interior of the helmet.

Infrared shielding: KLIM’s tinted and photochromic face shields for the X1 Alpha are all standard with Infrared shielding, to block heat from sunlight entering the front of the helmet in daytime conditions.

Ventilation: four adjustable front-facing vents channel air into the helmet. The lower chin vent channels fresh air to the rider's face, while the upper chin vent pushes air onto the face shield, similar to an automotive windshield defogger. Forehead vents force air through direct vent channels into the Koroyd + EPS construction to move fresh air through the upper portions of the helmet. All vents feature activation nodes to help gloved hands intuitively find and operate the vents.

Koroyd + EPS channeling: KLIM engineered direct-vent channels through the inner EPS layer, which provide escape paths for heat to exit the helmet both at speed and while sitting still. Heat from the rider's head passes through large cutouts in the comfort liner and EPS, flows through the Koroyd welded tubes, and out through the large exhaust vents. Aerodynamic wake optimized exhaust vents take advantage of the low pressure area behind a helmet in motion to help pull air out of the helmet.

Reducing heat buildup is a key way for KLIM to help riders stay more alert and aware during long and demanding rides.

INNER LINING

The cheek pads and crown liner are made with a Brrrº Triple Chill Effect antibacterial cooling fabric. This wicks moisture, helps keep the rider cool, and reduces buildup of smell over time.

X1 Alpha helmets are trimmed out with premium perforated goal leather suede, spacer mesh for breathability, and reflective material for added visibility in low light.

The crown liner and cheek pads are completely removable, washable, and antibacterial.

The EPS inner shell is recessed near the ears for proper fit of speakers, should the rider choose to use a communications system. There is also a recessed area at the back of the EPS for outfitting the additional wiring and batteries of a communication system.

FASTENING

The double d-ring buckle provides easy, secure adjustment of the chin strap for proper fit of the helmet.

FACE SHIELD

The KLIM Photochromic Face Shield will change from clear to dark smoke when exposed to UV light from the sun. The advantage is that the rider’s pupils do not have to adjust as much to changing light conditions, reducing fatigue. X1 Alpha face shields are compatible with a Pinlock 120XLT anti-fog insert for additional enhanced vision, eliminating the potential for fogging of the face shield.

HELMET SIZING

X1 Alpha comes with three carbon fiber shell sizes and five EPS thicknesses for perfectly optimized fit across the size range. Ear pocket cutouts are designed to fit all major helmet communication systems, making these helmets virtually universally compatible with any comm system.

HOW TO USE

OPENING AND CLOSING THE FACE SHIELD

The X1 Alpha face shield is ambidextrous, meaning it can be opened from the left or right side. Lift up on the face shield tabs to push the face shield up through its range of motion.

ADJUSTING THE PEAK VISOR

Push the spring-loaded peak visor retention button at the top of the helmet to disengage the peak visor position lock. With the button depressed, you can move the peak visor through its three preset positions (high, middle, low).

REMOVING THE PEAK VISOR

Push the spring-loaded peak visor retention button at the top of the helmet to disengage the peak visor position lock. With the button depressed, move the peak visor forward through all three positions and into the furthest forward release position. This will allow the button retention system to disengage from the helmet position channel. With the peak visor adjustment button disengaged from the helmet shell, rotate the peak visor further forward until the side posts of the peak visor disengage and can be popped out from the side plate mechanism. Repeat these steps in reverse to reinstall the peak visor.

REMOVING THE FACE SHIELD

First, remove the peak visor as described above. Open the face shield to its uppermost open position. Use your thumbs to push on the tabs at the rear of the face shield hinge area. Push the face shield forward against the spring-loaded keeper. While pushing the face shield forward, gently push out on the tabs at the rear of the face shield to help it pop out of the side plate mechanism.

To reinstall the face shield, simply orient the face shield in the uppermost position and push the face shield hinge posts into their respective side plate mechanism keepers. Ensure the face shield moves through its range of motion properly.

INSERTING THE PINLOCK® LENS

Remove the face shield from the helmet for easier installation. Make sure the face shield is clean. Find the two small plastic pins on each side of the shield – this is what the PINLOCK® will interface with. Remove protective film from the PINLOCK® lens. Carefully insert each end of the PINLOCK® lens into the “pin” on each side of the shield. Press the edges of the lens onto the face shield to make sure it is making a good seal. Reverse process to uninstall.

4 RIDE MODE VERSATILITY

With the intuitive tool-free peak visor and face shield removal, the X1 Alpha is the most functional and versatile adventure + dual-sport helmet on the market. Using zero tools, riders can wear the X1 Alpha in four ride modes: ADV, Dual-Sport, Off-Road and Street.

  • ADV: Using the peak visor and face shield installed.
  • Dual-Sport: Flip the face shield up, add some goggles, and be ready for anything.
  • Off-Road: Remove the face shield entirely, add some goggles, enjoy sealing out the dust.
  • Street: Remove the peak visor, keep the face shield, install the top and side covers, keep everything streamlined and perfectly aerodynamic.

REMOVING THE CROWN LINER & CHEEK PADS

Unsnap the cheek pads from the helmet. Unsnap the crown liner. Repeat the process in reverse to install.

NOTE

When removing and replacing the helmet parts make sure it is secure on a clean, dry surface. Do not put the helmet directly on hard surfaces as it will be hard to manage and you may damage the helmet. If you have any questions at all please contact KLIM or your trusted KLIM dealer for help.
